Whatever happened
To my Transylvania Twist?

I picked “Limbo” for Halloween for two reasons.

First, the song has a spooky-wooky vibe, with samples from “Monster Mash” (Whatever happened to my Transylvania twist?); sounds of clanking chains and burbling potions; and Geddy’s eerie vocables threaded throughout the song.

Second, this instrumental was patched together, Frankenstein style, from the scraps left over from other jam sessions (the music left in limbo, as it were).

I love that Rush made use of the cut pieces, though I’m not sure the whole piece goes on a coherent musical journey. That said, there are some amazing moments in this jam; in particular, the drum breakdown at 2:45 is rad as hell. I also like the guitar throughout — as if Rush is fully inhabiting their Soundgarden Era.
