9/16: Tom Sawyer (YYNOT, feat. Frank Bello & John Wesley)
More Patty PerShayla! Also Anthrax and Vertical Horizon.
Today’s Tom Sawyer, he gets high on you.
In the space he invades, he gets by on you.
Over the years, YYNOT—a Rush cover band, primarily—has performed at several festivals and charity events with musicians who played, toured, and otherwise collaborated with Rush. This cover of “Tom Sawyer” is one of my faves.
It features Anthrax’s Frank Bello on the bass and Vertical Horizon’s John Wesley on the guitar, with Patty PerShayla on the vocals. (Yes, the same Patty who did that amazing “Closer to the Heart” cover on the ukelele. Man, don’t you just love her? She always looks like she’s having the time of her life on stage. And her vocal range easily matches baby!Ged note for note.)
It’s wild to realize that this cover deploys three people to perform all the parts that Geddy played himself. Ged never settled for easy; he always chases challenge. It’s one of the things I respect most about him. It might make for a crowded cover band, but that’s just opportunity for more musicians to pay tribute!
