Bearing a gift beyond price, almost free
Oh boy. I have been waiting all. fricken. year. for this post.
Jack Black is one of my favorite humans—despite all the raunchiness and profanity, he is by all rights a genuinely decent dude; and I can’t help but adore him for leaning so hard into making kids’ movies—so pairing him with The Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl is just, well, heavenly. These are two guys who just genuinely love music, in all its many shapes and forms, and you can feel that love oozing out of their every pore.
If you didn’t know, Jack is Jewish, as is long-time Foo producer Greg Kurstin. For a few years now, Kurstin and Grohl have collaborated on The Hannukah Sessions, a set of covers released annually, one for every night of Hannukah*.
Seeing as how tonight is the first night of Hannukah, I had to go with the best one: Jack Black, Dave Grohl, and Greg Kurstin together covering “The Spirit of Radio” in 2022.
This video is just too precious and perfect to spoil. Just push play and get ready to goofy grin along with me. Happy Hannukah, everyone!
* How do YOU spell Hannukah? I tend to alternate between two Ns (“Hannukah”) or with the hard ch (“Chanukah”), but I’ve seen all sorts of exciting spellings, including Channuka, annukkahh, Januca, and, the spiciest spelling of all, Janice.
