Hailing off the 40th anniversary re-release of A Farewell to Kings, “Cygnus X-2 Eh” is the deepest of deep cuts.
It’s basically the musical equivalent of a scratch pad. This isn’t a song so much as all the sonic outtakes from the original “Cygnus X-1”—you can hear bits and pieces of inspiration that made it into the finished product, but mostly, this is four minutes of Ged snorting a pile of coke and going hogwild on the Minimoog.
It’s kinda cool? Very trippy, music of the spheres kinda stuff. That said, I think they ended up with a perfect song in “Cygnus X-1,” so I’m glad most of this didn’t make it in.
What does the Eh stand for? Should it have an M in from of the E? Is it a Canadianism? I'm nearing the end of the Geddy book (finally -- it's a long one!). I love the way he refers to coke as schnaw. (however it's spelled).
