I can shine, like you shine
It doesn’t make me brighter
If I think, like you think
It don’t make my load any lighter…
Well, we made it everyone. The final day of the year, and the final day of the One A Day Rush experiment.
Our final song is “In The End.” I always loved this Fly By Night track—a lazy, twisting marriage of their bar-vibe from the early days and the extended jam sessions of their prog masterpieces. The song builds and builds in layers, with Geddy, Alex, and Neil each taking turns to show off their prowess. The end result isn’t quite coherent, not as the guys would come to be, but it is clearly evidence of them working together—with flashes of the powerhouse band they would one day become.
And with that… y’all, I did it.
One Rush song a day, every day, for 366 days in a row. I didn’t miss a single day, and I highlighted every song in their discography, as well as dozens of live performances, covers, and other special tunes.
What a wild ride it has been!
I couldn’t have done it without you, my readers. Thank you so, so, so much for reading and sharing your own stories and perspectives about this amazing band. I am beyond grateful so many of you chose to come along with me on this journey. You made this worthwhile.
Many of you have asked what comes next. Now that the year is over, will I keep up with One A Day Rush? Or will I vanish into the night?
The honest answer is: I don’t know. That might be odd to hear from someone who planned out an entire year of posts in advance—but I haven’t really been able to decide what comes next. I know that I can’t keep up the once-daily posts anymore; but if I changed my publication frequency, wouldn’t the blog title and URL, One A Day Rush, feel like false advertising?
What I’ve tentatively landed on is a weekly or monthly round-up post, where I round-up links to the 2024 posts for that time period, as well as highlight a new video or tidbit. That seems like a manageable, sustainable way to keep this blog alive. (But if you have suggestions or opinions, I’d love to hear them!)
The big takeaway, though, is that I’m not planning on going anywhere. I’m looking at today not as an ending, but a beginning: One A Day Rush is about to celebrate its first birthday—and hopefully many more. I hope that once again, you’ll stick around for the ride.
Thanks for the fun ride!
Congratulations, Lara! I don't know which I've valued more from your 'Stack: seeing my favorite band's music through others' eyes, or discovering some amazing covers. Thank you very much for both, and so much more.
Have you considered letting this Substack stand as it is, and starting another? In doing that, you wouldn't be betraying either the "Rush" or the daily aspect of it. And I'm confident many would subscribe on the basis of your fine work here.
