7/27: Lonely Man (JR Flood)
Neil gets all spooky-wooky on his first band's demo album.
Traveling down life’s lonesome highway
Trying to find lost dreams from long ago
Thought the world was going my way
Now I find that I’m all alone
“Lonely Man” is one of my favorite tracks on the JR Flood album. Neil’s rapid-fire cymbals, paired with the minor key and the plaintive organ, builds this downright ominous vibe, like meeting a demon at midnight on the crossroads (or—go with me here—the Phantom of the Opera). Spooky-wooky.
I wish the lyrics were better, but, well, Neil’s just a baby on this album. Sometimes when you’re young, you gotta work through what isn’t right for you to figure out what is.
