I’m traveling for the next few days, so I’ll be keeping the next few posts fairly brief. First up: a live performance of “Test for Echo”, from the eponymous tour in the mid-90s.
“Test for Echo” is a song that already sounded good on the album, but which benefits tremendously from live performance. The bass, which to me sounds ever-so-slightly too crisp on the studio track, gets raw and muddied up in the live performance, enhancing the angsty, grunge vibe.
Something about that change gives Neil’s lyrics what they were missing. I vastly prefer it, and when I want to listen to “Test for Echo,” I almost always default for this version instead of the studio album.
Hope you enjoy it too!
