The Show of Hands version of this track is a banger.
I get where you're coming from with the whole atomic bomb thing but I find the whole Manhattan Project and adjacent bits and pieces fascinating. Yes, it turned out to be a horrible mistake but those people were discovering and working with the most basic and primal forces of the universe and I don't think any of them really thought that they were building the ultimate killing machine as much as reveling in the thrill of discovering something completely new and powerful and doing it before the Nazis.
I hear what you're saying; Feynmann makes a similar argument in his autobiography. At the same time--they still bear the responsibility of what they created. And the idea that the song posits--even if ironically--that we should give the Los Alamos researchers a pass because it was just a bunch of boys playing with their toys infantilizes grown men.
Regardless, it's the cutesiness of this song that bothers me.
